The Sun has been in business for about 4.5 billion years. In its core, at 15,000,000°c and 314 billion atmospheres pressure, hydrogen fuses into helium. 0.7% of the mass of this reaction, 5 million tons of energy per second, is converted to energy. It takes a million years for this energy to reach the sun's surface, and another 8 minutes to reach Earth, where our PV array converts it to electric power to make hydrogen.
Our system depends on endless free solar energy. Fortunately, the sun has proved to be a reliable component, and we project it continuing dependably for the next 5 billion years.
